Our Story

Simon is an Antiques Consultant and conservator with a special interest in regional British furniture, particularly that which was made in the North West of England. 

From a childhood interest in history, his career began after reading chemistry and materials science at Manchester Polytechnic. Working  in a local antique restoration business and taking many courses before he established his own workshop. He has a special interest in furniture conservation with an emphasis on historic surface preservation. With nearly thirty years of experience in the world of Antiques and vintage, he is able to provide practical work, advice and many other complimentary services.                                                                                         

He was listed in the Bonham's Directory, was a member of the Guild of Antique Dealers and Restorers, is a member of the Regional Furniture Society, the Furniture History Society, and The Institute of Conservation (N/A). He recently gave a presentation on North West chairs at a symposium in Scotland on "the rush seated chair, A Celebration Past and Future".  He has been an antiques advisor on BBC GMR and even appeared in an ITV programme on antique collecting.                                               

Commissions include ; work on a Georgian mahogany dressing chest for a NW museum and supplying an interpretation model to be handled by visitors, work on site to the interior woodwork of another museum,  producing a condition report for a grant funded museum acquisition, collaboration on a collection's review of  the furniture held by several Northern museums.  Clients include people with a single family piece, collectors with many more and those who just want an item to be of use. With a passion for continued professional development he continues to learn, attending many courses, in furniture history, traditional craft skills, conservation and restoration techniques; one on 'painted historic furniture' was held at the prestigious Rijksmuesum  in the Netherlands.
